Nothing is not the opposite of everything.‘To do this,’ Jung said, ‘we are obliged to confront the shadow, to integrate the devil. His basic notion of the shadow was simple: ‘the shadow is the person you would rather not be.’ He believed that integrating the shadow would have a profound impact, enabling us to rediscover a deeper source of our own spiritual life. Jung first gave us the term ‘shadow’ to refer to those parts of our personality that have been rejected out of fear, ignorance, shame, or lack of love.When we take the time to discover our shadow and its gifts we will understand what Jung meant by, ‘The gold is in the dark.’ Each of us needs to find that gold in order to reunite with our sacred self. To be divine is to be whole and to be whole is to be everything: the positive and the negative, the good and the bad, the holy and the devil. We live under the pretense that in order for something to be divine it has to be perfect.We have to uncover, own and embrace all of who we are, the good and bad, dark and light, strong and weak, and honest and dishonest. Within ourselves, we possess every trait and its polar opposite, every human emotion and impulse.We need to accept and integrate our shadows to be whole The madness of this planet is largely a result of the human being’s difficulty in coming to viruous balance with himself. The ingredients of both darkness and light are equally present in all of us.
And it is there that we must do our work. For all darkness in the world stems from darkness in the heart.
Until we have met the monsters in ourselves, we keep trying to slay them in the outer world. Whatever we refuse to recognize about ourselves has a way of rearing its head and making itself known when we least expect it. By choosing not to allow parts of ourselves to exist, we are forced to expend huge amounts of psychic energy to keep them beneath the surface. What persona are you hiding behind? Debbie Ford Our persona was not created by accident it was created in order to camouflage the parts of ourselves we deemed the most undesirable and to overcompensate for what we believe to be our deepest flaws. The message we get from this hidden place is simple: there is something wrong with me. The dark side is stuffed deeply within our consciousness, hidden from ourselves and others. It contains those dark aspects that we believe are not acceptable to our family, friends, and most importantly, ourselves. What the psychologist Carl Jung called the shadow, contains all the parts of ourselves that we have tried to hide or deny. Light, Darkness, Self-knowledge, Self-awareness, Projection, The subconscious, Creativity. But, truly, the darkness is simply a piece of the whole, neither good nor evil unless you make it so. Some use it as a shield to hide behind, others as an excuse to do unconscionable things. We are what we are because of it, or perhaps in spite of it. Still, we all have it-that part of our soul that is irreparably damaged by the very trials and tribulations of life. There is darkness inside all of us, though mine is more dangerous than most. No one can live in the light all the time. Because there is a lot of grey to work with. We’re each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion fighting to emerge into something solid, something real. In each of us lie good and bad, light and dark, art and pain, choice and regret, cruelty and sacrifice. There is nothing we can see or conceive that we are not, and the purpose of our journey is to restore ourselves to this wholeness. Each of us possess every existing human quality. Most importantly, (I have come to believe) I am the Observer, pure consciousness…connected forever to the Unified Field, to Brahman, to God…and so are you. I live in a sea of change sometimes floating in calm serenity, sometimes clinging, gasping, drowning through the storms of my life. I am also ignorance, the reactive mind the Shadow. I am everything that is good and holy Buddha Nature. I am the sinner, the saint, the depraved and the righteous. I believe that within each of us lies the essence of the universe. Many of us are frightened to look within ourselves, and fear has us put up walls so thick we no longer remember who we are. 
The saintly and the cynical, the divine and the diabolical, the courageous and the cowardly: all these aspects lie dormant in us and will act out if they are not recognized and integrated into our psyches.Everyone is a moon and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.
